And Now I See the Light

I’ve done it.  I’ve figured out one of life’s biggest questions.  How do you bake a crack-less crack-like cheesecake?  The answer: a water bath and mad skills (i.e. teddy grahams and mocha instant coffee).  But seriously, this cheesecake was delicious.  I … Continue reading

Just What the Doctor Ordered

This is the last of my finals week baking posts, super decadent chocolate cupcakes, for my oldest little sister.  She’s studying to be a doctor, while working almost full-time, and she still finds the time to be a wonderful sister … Continue reading

A Day Late, But Never a Dollar Short

I promise, I have a valid excuse for my blog tardiness.  Better than a doctor’s note.  The most ridiculous, delicious, “holy crap, I can’t read this in public” book I’ve read in ages.  Or maybe ever.  Fifty Shades of Grey, by E.L. James.  Now, my grandmother reads this, so I can’t go into details, but  if you’re a legal adult and not (at all) squeamish, this is the smut for you.  If you’re looking for a romantic, sigh-inducing romantic epic of the ages, this is not it; if you read this book for the love story, you may need to seriously reevaluate what you call a healthy relationship.  But if you’re looking for the book version of devil’s food cake (with all the dirty pleasure, and just a little bit of guilt), this is it.

With that, I give you today’s recipe, Oreo Cheesecake Cookies.  I made these for one of my sisters during her finals week, although she and her boyfriend devoured them the night I made them.  They had a unique texture, half-way between cheesecake and half-baked cookies, with a deliciously rich flavor.  They were also super quick to whip up and looked lovely — perfect if you’ve forgotten you promised to bring dessert. Throughout my years in school, I saw a LOT of crazy study habits / supposed shortcuts.  From the crack whore chic snorting of the Adderall, to the nose breathers favorite, spending hours writing hundreds of ultimately useless flashcards, to one … Continue reading

I love to feed people.  In particular, I love to feed the people I love.  So, whenever I visit my hometown, I like to bring my mom and sisters something sweet.  They struggled through every batch of alternately burnt and … Continue reading

Chocolate Chip Meringue Cookies

I’ve always wanted to attempt a meringue, but shied away with the belief that it would be a complicated, finicky recipe — and it’s no secret that I have no patience with fussy recipes. However, when I found this recipe … Continue reading

For Boston For Boston (Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes)

This gallery contains 11 photos.

This post is an homage to my hometown, the most beautiful city on Earth: Boston.  And what better way to do that (besides something Sox-themed, of course), than to make some Boston Cream Pie.  Fluffy cake, smooth cream, dense chocolate … Continue reading

Carrot Cake Cupcakes (What Happens When I Watch Julie and Julia on a Sunday Afternoon)

This gallery contains 10 photos.

I can never watch Julie and Julia without migrating to the kitchen and baking while I watch.  Seeing Julia in her Paris kitchen inspires me to close my eyes, forget about the hideous wood-panelling all around me, and dive into creating … Continue reading
